THE GREAT WAR AT VOLPAGO DEL MONTELLO
Near the Piave front, Volpago found itself in the forefront during the Great War, which raged above all along the northern side of Montello.
In the Venegazzù hamlet, Villa Spineda Gasparini housed the 38th hospital of the Italian Red Cross 4th Army Delegation (the request is dated 2 July 1915) while at the beginning of the avenue that leads to the cemetery there is an arch dedicated to the Fallen.
In the centre of Volpago there are numerous testimonies that link the commune to the Great War. The memories are brought to life by the Kindergarten Monument and the nearby Avenue of Remembrance that leads toward the cemetery where a tomb is devoted to the members of S.O.M.S. (Female Workers’ Mutual Aid Society).
