The Asparagus Route
The Road of the White Asparagus of Cimadolmo IGP (Protected Geographical Indication) winds through the territories of the municipalities in the area of theriver Piave, between Ponte della Priula and Ponte di Piave, a not particularly large area that counts about a hundred or so producers.
The White Asparagus of Cimadolmowas awarded the denomination of IGP, that is, the Protected Geographical Indication, in the year 2001 by the European Community, the first white asparagus to receive this important tutelary appellation. This noble vegetable, introduced among the crops farmed locally in the period after the second World War, is known for its characteristic consistency and whiteness, thanks to the farming techniques adopted, namely its cultivation in the earth in the absence of light and to its particularly delicate taste.
Another area of production in the Marchlands of Treviso extends towards the south-west of the province, more specifically in the area of Badoere. This asparagus, protected since the year 2010 with the PGI denomination, is green in colour for the ripening process which takes place in the sunlight, though its taste is no less sought-after than the Cimadolmo variety and lends itself, as this last, to being used in a wide range of exquisite recipes.
This delicious vegetable is the protagonist of numerous events and shows every year animating the countryside around Treviso in the asparagus season which goes from April to June. In particular, the exhibitions "Germogli di Primavera" or "Spring Shoots", and "Superbe" group together a series of dates that are not to be missed, a calendar of events that attracts many enthusiasts also from beyond the area of the province.
