E4 - Il GiraSile
Here is the latest proposal specially for cycling enthusiasts. An all-round ring-route of about 40 km links Treviso to Casale sul Sile, following the flow of the river Sile, the longest river of resurgent waters in Europe. The itinerary, charted with the code E4, unwinds in one of the most charming places where the relationship between river and man develops, respecting both tradition and the necessities of modern progress, and where art and culture abound, with a backdrop of nature reserves, Venetian villas and luxuriant countryside.
Along the route there are plenty of stop off, places to eat and berths for kayaks/canoes where you can start from or return to, in order to ‘live’ the experience of the river to the full, trying out the different modalities of slow navigation that are proposed here.
An excursion of an hour or so by bike thus becomes an occasion for spending the whole day out in the open air or a weekend exploring the naturalistic treasures safeguarded by the Park of the River Sile.
It is possible to use your own bike, leaving the car in one of the several free car-parks located along the bicycle path, or you can arrive by train or bus at the station in Treviso and move around with a hired bike.
For people who are interested in finding out more about this waterway, used right up to the last century for transporting goods from Treviso to Venice, the Park Guide accompaniment is the ‘key’ to opening up a treasure-trove of stories and traditions. An example being that of the old “burci”, that is, craft or boats lying in their ‘cemetery’ which can be visited by walking down the gangways of wood, and which represents one of the most fascinating moments of the cycling route.
